Determine black carbon and ash content

Uses pyrolytic decomposition of the plastic in an inert gas flow (nitrogen). This means that the remaining quantity is burnt under convection and the carbon black content is determined by means of comparing weights. IPT has configured the test setup to be space saving and convenient: it comprises a pipe oven with upstream glassware and downstream rubber hoses to supply nitrogen and air and to extract combustion exhaust. Specimen temperature in the oven is measured using type k thermocouples and shown on the display.
